Guidelines and submissions

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 15th January 2025. Abstracts have to be prepared in English on the abstract submission form and have to be submitted as a WORD file to asmosia14@guest.arnes.si. One oral presentation per participant is allowed.

The conference sessions are the following:

  1. Applications to Specific Archaeological Questions – Use of Marble.
  2. Provenance Identification I: (Marble).
  3. Provenance Identification II: (Other Stones).
  4. Advances in Provenance Techniques, Methodologies and Databases.
  5. Quarries and Geology: (Quarrying Techniques, Organization, Transport of Stones, New Quarries, Stone Carving and Dressing, Hazards to and Preservation of Quarries).
  6. Stone Properties, Weathering Effects and Restoration, as related to diagnosis problems, matching of stone fragments and authenticity.
  7. Pigments and Paintings on Marble.
  8. Special theme session: Limestones and other rocks of the Alpine-Dinaric-Pannonian area: sources, extraction and use.

Announcement of acceptance / rejection of papers is planned for 15th April 2025. The selection between oral and poster presentation will be decided by an international reviewers committee. One oral presentation per participant is allowed.

All oral and poster presentations have to be prepared in English.

Oral presentations last 15 min., followed by 5 min. of discussion.

The poster size should be exactly cm 70 (width) x 100 (height). Please consider at least 3 cm margins for the content. Snap poster frames will be namely used at the conference. Dedicated poster sessions of 1.30 hours each will be organized on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon; however, the posters in each session will be up and visitable for two days each.

The Association (ASMOSIA) will provide two Norman Herz awards (300 and 200 €) for the two best student posters. Students that are interested to compete for these awards should declare this with the submission of the abstract. Please find attached the Instructions.

Also, the Association (ASMOSIA) will provide three (3) grants of 700 € each to young researchers for facilitation their participation to the conference. Please find attached additional information and the Application form.

The preparation of the conference proceedings will start after the implementation of the conference. Manuscript preparation guidelines will be published in this section of the website.
